IEC provides complete Lead-based paint services with a state-of-the-art XRF spectrum analyzer. This instrument allows IEC to record lead concentrations in paint, soil and dust without removing or disturbing the material. Reports can be as simple as a printout of the collected analysis data to a complete risk assessment with abatement strategies and estimates. IEC provides lead-based paint inspections for hazard communication in industrial and commercial settings, targeted housing (homes built before 1978 with children under age 7) and facilities with small children such as kindergartens or daycare.

Capabilities

IEC provides the following in-depth reports and services:

Full Lead-based Paint building surveys and inspections
Provide a report recording all materials sampled for lead paint with an executive summary detailing locations, quantity, lead content, accessibility,  and condition.  See Lead Paint Report for a sample of our work.
Risk Assessments
Determine the health effects of exposure to any lead paint or dust in the facility by conducting a hazard identification, a dose response assessment, an exposure assessment and a risk characterization.  The risk assessment provides acceptable abatement and interim control measures based on the specific conditions and the owner's capabilities.
Lead-based Paint Management (O&M) Plans
IEC advocates management of lead coated building materials in-place until necessary to remove the materials.  To this end we can provide simple, pre-produced Operations and Maintenance Plans tailored to the specific materials and training for maintenance and custodial employees.
Abatement Plans, Designs, & Specifications for removal & disposal
When necessary, IEC can provide the project design and specification generation to eliminate lead paint and dust hazards.  Work plans targeting specific removal plans can be generated to provide abatement or interim controls.  Lead is a hazardous material and must be disposed of properly.  IEC provides the analysis of waste materials to determine the proper method of disposal.
Abatement Monitoring & Air Sampling
IEC will provide compliance during the project to protect the building owner from occupant and employee liability issues.  Air sampling is conducted daily to determine the exposure and provide additional engineering controls if necessary.
Abatement Contractor Selection
IEC works with several lead-based paint abatement contractors throughout the western United States.  We can provide qualified contractors to bid the project, provide all specification and contracts, conduct the bid walk and opening and select the best qualified contractor for the most cost-effective price.
Hazardous Waste Analysis and Evaluation
Lead is classified as a hazardous material and must be disposed of properly.  IEC provides sampling and submitting of the various lead waste types to determine the proper method of disposal.
EPA and OSHA Lead-based Paint Awareness Training
OSHA hazard communication requires the employees that may be involved with lead dust be trained to recognize any hazards.  In addition, depending on exposure rates, employees performing work on lead-based paint surfaces are required to have this awareness training.  IEC can provide this training.
